Fianna Fáil welcome major funding for laneways
Minister of State, Brendan Smith, T.D., and Senator Diarmuid Wilson have been informed by Mr Batt O’Keeffe, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government that he has allocated € 1.065 Million to Cavan County Council for the Local Improvements Scheme for 2005.
Minister Smith stated that this major funding will enable the County Council to carry out a substantial programme of improvement works to laneways throughout the county. He added that this scheme is particularly important to rural communities.
Senator Wilson stated that this Government has increased the funding for the Local Improvement Schemes to € 1.065 Million from a level of € 304,737 in 1997 which represents an increase of 228 %.
Minister Smith added that in excess of € 32 Million will be invested in upgrading and improving the roads and laneways in Co. Cavan this year and this will enable a substantial roadworks programme to be undertaken throughout all of the county.
