Funding for Cavan Libraries
Mr. Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has welcomed the decision of the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Mr. Dick Roche T.D. to allocate €4.9 million this year to Cavan County Council towards the construction of the new County Cavan Library Headquarters at Farnham Street, Cavan.
Minister Smith was also informed by the Environment Minister that he has also approved €525,000 towards the provision of a new Library in Belturbet and also €380,000 for the Library Mobile Service. Belturbet Fianna Fáil Councillor Anthony P. Vesey has warmly welcomed this decision.
Minister Smith stated that the provision of major funding towards the library service in Co. Cavan is very welcome with the construction of the new County Library Headquarters in Cavan Town and the provision in recent years of a major new library in Cootehill are all welcome news. He added that the recent approvals by the Minister will mean a continuation of this major investment in the library service.
Minister Smith stated that financial provision is also being made to enable branch libraries avail of broadband telecommunications infrastructure.
