78 Primary schools in County Cavan are to receive grant payments in the next week from the Department of Education and Science towards the costs of small scale projects.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D. confirmed that each national school in the county will be in receipt of a grant of €5,500 per school, plus €18.50 per mainstream pupil and €74 per special needs pupil.
The funding must be spent on the physical infrastructure of the school or on items of furniture and equipment for educational use including information technology-related equipment.
Confirming that the funds would be lodged to schools’ bank accounts in the next week, Minister Smith said that national schools in every part of County Cavan and every local community would benefit from this funding.” Despite the very critical pressure on our public finances, this Government continues to prioritise investment in education, which is essentially an investment in the future of our country. I would like to congratulate all the schools who are about to receive this very welcome funding which I know will be put to very good use”, Minister Smith said.
