MAjor Water & Sewerage Schemes approved - Smith
Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., has welcomed the Water Services Investment Programme 2004 – 2006 for Co. Cavan and he stated that the funding approved will enable a large number of schemes to proceed throughout the county.
The Fianna Fáil Deputy stated that € 3.5 Million has been allocated for the commencement of the Kingscourt Regional Water Supply Scheme this year and also € 2.2 Million for Sewerage Schemes at Mountnugent, Stradone and Crosskeys. He added that funding is also being provided towards the continuation of the major € 5.5 Million Sewerage Scheme in Belturbet. Funding is also being provided towards the construction of the € 1.35 Million Sewerage Scheme in Redhills.
The Minister in his correspondence to Deputy Smith stated that the € 5.5 Million Sewerage Scheme at Kingscourt and the € 2.7 Million Cavan Sludge Management Schemes will commence in 2005.
Deputy Smith has also welcomed the Minister’s decision to allow a number of schemes to advance through planning and to go to construction in 2006. He added that these schemes include Bailieborough Sewerage Scheme Extension Stage 2, Cavan Regional Water Supply Scheme Stage 2, Cavan Sewerage Scheme, Cootehill Regional Water Supply Scheme and Virginia Sewerage Scheme. The estimated cost of those schemes alone is € 19.2 Million.
Deputy Smith added that the Minister is allocating € 1.3 Million to Cavan County Council for their Water Conservation Programme and he added that the Minister has now given the Council approval to commence planning for a number of schemes including Bailieborough Regional Water Supply Scheme – Treatment Works and Network, Ballyconnell Public Water Supply, Ballinagh Wastewater Scheme and Kilnaleck Wastewater Scheme. The estimated cost of these projects is € 23.8 Million.
The Fianna Fáil Deputy added that this Water Services Investment Programme 2004 – 2006 entails a total expenditure of € 65 Million and is clear evidence of this Government’s ongoing commitment to the upgrading and provision of new infrastructure of water and sewerage schemes throughout all of Co. Cavan.
