Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., has announced that the Minister for Education and Science, Mr Noel Dempsey, T.D., has now approved the inclusion of Lisboduff and Castletara National Schools in this year’s School Building Programme under the Devolved Grants Scheme.  He added that the Department of Education and Science will now invite the Board of Management of each school to participate in this new Scheme and he stated that these approvals will enable substantial improvement works to be undertaken at each school.

Deputy Smith was also informed by the Minister that he has sanctioned the inclusion of a number of schools in Co. Cavan under the Summer Works Scheme 2004 and this will enable the schools to carry out some necessary and urgent improvement works. 

The successful applicants were:

• St. Felim’s National School, Cavan
• Knocktemple National School, Munterconnaught
• Drumcrave National School, Cavan
• St. Michael’s Junior & Senior Schools, Cootehill
• Castletara National School
• St. Patrick’s College, Cavan
• The Royal School, Cavan
• St. Aidan’s Comprehensive School, Cootehill.
