€ 925,000 in Sports Grants


Mr John O’Donoghue T.D., Minister for Arts, Sport & Tourism has informed Deputy Brendan Smith and Senator Diarmuid Wilson that he has approved grants to a number of Clubs throughout Co Cavan under the Sports Capital Programme 2004.

The following approval has issued to:

 

  • Lacken Celtic G.A.A.Club                                € 150,000
  • Kingscourt Handball and Racquetball Club             € 100,000
  • Templeport St. Aidan’s G.A.A. Club                     € 100,000
  • Mullahoran G.A.A. Club                                         €   80,000
  • Virginia Rugby Football Club                                 €   75,000
  • Crosserlough G.A.A. Club                               €   70,000
  • Ballinagh Leisure & Sports Complex Trust Ltd          €   70,000
  • Shercock Sports & Recreation Facilities Ltd                    €   65,000
  • Kill Community Development Ltd                       €   60,000
  • Ballyjamesduff Soccer Club                               €   50,000
  • Cavan Town Council – Tullacmongan Pitches          €   50,000
  • Cootehill G.A.A. Club                                           €   20,000
  • Ballyhaise Multi-Purpose Sports Facility                   €   20,000
  • Drumalee G.A.A. Club                                           €   15,000

 

 

 

The Fianna Fáil Oireachtas Members have welcomed these grant allocations and they stated that over the past few years funding of over € 3.6 million has been provided by the Department for the development of sporting facilities throughout the County.

 

The Fianna Fáil Deputy added that there is still an urgent need to provide grant assistance to other Clubs which are in the process of providing new or upgraded facilities to meet the recreational and sporting needs of the people of their catchment areas.  He added that many other worthwhile projects throughout the County are very deserving of assistance and he has requested the Minister to put another scheme in place as early as possible in 2005.
