Major Road Works Programme continues
Deputy Brendan Smith and Senator Diarmuid Wilson have announced that € 17,440,500 Million is available to Cavan County Council for this year’s Non-National Roads Restoration and Improvement Programme.
The Fianna Fáil Oireachtas Members stated that the Environment Minister, Martin Cullen, T.D., has allocated: -
€ 14,352,500 to Cavan County Council
€ 253,000 to Cavan Town Council
and the County Council is providing from its own resources € 2.835 Million towards the Roads Programme this year.
Deputy Smith added that this funding will mean further significant improvements in road conditions throughout the county. He added that the Minister’s road works allocation and his funding of Local Government Services will mean a rapid continuation of the road restoration programme, which has been under way for a number of years. The Fianna Fáil Deputy stated that it is absolutely essential to continue this work to give the people of the county the proper standard of roads to which they are entitled. He added that this major funding will ensure a substantial improvement in the county’s road network this year.
Senator Wilson stated that along with Deputy Brendan Smith, the Fianna Fáil County Councillors met the Environment Minister twice over the past few months and they impressed upon him the need to continue the high level of investment in roads, housing, water and sewerage services and in environmental protection.
Deputy Smith stated that further allocations will be made to the County Council under the Clár Programme, the Local Improvements Scheme for the repair of laneways and the National Roads Authority will also be allocating funding to Cavan County Council in respect of the National Primary and National Secondary Road Network.
The Cavan/Monaghan Deputy also stated that € 13.876 Million has been allocated to the Councils in Monaghan towards their Road Works Programme for 2004.
