The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Cavan/Monaghan T.D., Mr. Brendan Smith has announced that the payment of the 30% balancing payments under the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) will commence tomorrow (1 December) and will see €19.4 million going to over 8,450 farmers in both counties.
With the completion of the Single Payment Scheme payments, a total of €67 million will have been paid under the Scheme to farmers in Counties Cavan and Monaghan since 16 October.
“This has been a very difficult year for farmers and I am glad to have been in a position to have got agreement from the European Commission for an advance payment of 70%, which was a full six weeks sooner than is provided for under the rules. These balancing payments will be a welcome boost to farming families in the run up to Christmas”, Minister Smith said.
