E 10½ Million for Cavan’s National Roads Programme

Cavan By-Pass to go to construction.

Local Fianna Fáil Oireachtas Representatives, Brendan Smith, T.D., and Senator Diarmuid Wilson have announced that the National Roads Authority has included the construction of the Cavan By-Pass/N55 link in the 2004 National Roads Building Programme with a specific allocation of E 5.5 Million for this project.

Deputy Smith stated that the By-Pass project involves the construction of almost 3 km’s of single carriageway and links the N3 at the Pollamore Roundabout to the N55 at Corlurgan, south of Cavan Town and it also involves the construction of one bridge.

Senator Wilson also stated that major funding of E1.6 Million is being provided towards improvement works on the N55 in the Drumbannow, Garrymore – Corduff, and Dundevan areas.

Deputy Smith stated that funding of E1.1 Million is being provided for road improvements at the New Inns/Billis on the N3.  He added that    E500,000 is also being provided towards the repair of the streets in Belturbet.

The two Fianna Fáil Oireachtas members added that other funding is also being provided towards improvements and maintenance work elsewhere on the N3 and N87 including E300,000 for improvement works at Killynagher and Bunn Cross.  They added that further funding of E40,000 is being provided this year towards planning and design of Belturbet By-Pass and E20,000 for Virginia By-Pass.

Deputy Smith added that the construction of the Cavan By-Pass is absolutely essential for the further economic and social development not just of Cavan Town but all of the county as both the N3 and N55 are vital arterial routes for Co. Cavan and its wider catchment area.

The Fianna Fáil T.D. stated that this allocation follows on from the recent announcement of E 17.44 Million for the Non National Roads Programme in Co. Cavan and he concluded that further funding will be allocated under the Local Improvement Scheme and under the CLÁR Programme.
