Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., has welcomed the recent announcement by Mr Pat the Cope Gallagher, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government that he has now allocated E 2, 273,300 to Cavan County Council under the European Programme for Peace and Reconciliation Peace II.

Deputy Smith stated that these grants will be administered by the County Council-led Task Force, which is responsible for the delivery of three measures under the Peace II Programme.  He added that the measures receiving funding from these grants will focus on support for projects which benefit both urban and rural local communities and enhance the attractiveness of the border areas for visitors and investment.

Deputy Smith stated that this funding will enable the Council to undertake work and provide new facilities in both urban and rural areas and can fund local projects and community initiatives.

The Fianna Fáil T.D. added that the Council has over the past few years provided many new worthwhile facilities with funding under this particular Scheme and these projects are beneficial to many communities throughout the county.
