Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., has announced that the Minister for Education and Science, Mr Noel Dempsey, T.D., has now issued approval in respect of the acceptance of a tender in the region of € 1.9 Million for a major building project at Dernakesh National School.

Deputy Smith stated that this decision by the Minister is very welcome and he told Northern Sound that the extension will include three new classrooms, a general purposes room, special tuition room, resource room, library and upgrading of existing accommodation.

 

The Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D. stated that the completion of this new accommodation and refurbishment will ensure that the school will have the most modern and up-to-date facilities and will mean a financial investment of over € 2 Million in this building project.

 

Deputy Smith stated that this very worthwhile investment by the Government in Dernakesh National School and in other schools in Co. Cavan is a clear vote of confidence in the future of rural communities.
