Central Heating Programme for Council Houses of the Oireachtas


Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has welcomed the decision by the Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, Mr Noel Ahern, T.D., to allocate € 200,000 to Cavan County Council and € 140,000 to Cavan Town Council under his Department’s Central Heating in Local Authority Rented Dwellings Programme in 2004.

Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food has welcomed the decision by the Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, Mr Noel Ahern, T.D., to allocate € 200,000 to Cavan County Council and € 140,000 to Cavan Town Council under his Department’s Central Heating in Local Authority Rented Dwellings Programme in 2004.

 

Minister Ahern in his correspondence to the Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fáil Deputy stated that the objective of this Programme is to assist housing authorities in providing central heating facilities in their rented dwellings that currently lack such facilities.

 

Minister Ahern also stated that the implementation of the Programme is the responsibility of the housing authority concerned, including the planning and execution of works.  Under the Programme a grant of € 5,600 or up to 80% of the cost, whichever is the lesser, is available in respect of the provision of central heating facilities and the related energy improvement and smoke detection measures in eligible dwellings with the balance of the cost being provided by local authorities.
