Cavan By-Pass to go to construction
Local Fianna Fáil Oireachtas Representatives, Brendan Smith, T.D., and Senator Diarmuid Wilson have announced that the National Roads Authority will include the construction of the Cavan By-Pass/N55 link in the 2004 National Roads Building Programme.
The Anglo-Celt understands that both of the Fianna Fáil Oireachtas Representatives along with the Chairman of Cavan County Council, Councillor Sean Smith, the County Manager, Seamus Neely and the Director of Services, Ger Finn met with the Minister for Transport, Mr Seamus Brennan, T.D., and his Officials sometime ago in relation to the need to advance this project to construction as quickly as possible.
Deputy Smith stated that the By-Pass project involves the construction of almost 3 km’s of single carriageway and links the N3 at the Pollamore Roundabout to the N55 at Corlurgan, south of Cavan Town and it also involves the construction of one bridge.
Senator Wilson, who is the Government Spokesperson on Transport in Seanad Éireann, stated that in 2003 the National Roads Authority allocated € 2.5 Million to the County Council in respect of the ongoing design, purchase of land and completion of contract documentation for this major building project.
Deputy Smith added that the construction of the Cavan By-Pass is absolutely essential for the further economic and social development not just of Cavan Town but all of the county as both the N3 and N55 are vital arterial routes for Co. Cavan and its wider catchment area.
