Launch of Broadband Programme
Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D. Brendan Smith also welcomed Minister Dermot Ahern’s inauguration of the new telecommunications programme for Cavan, Monaghan and Louth.
Deputy Smith stated that this new broadband roll-out is of particular significance to Cavan and Kingscourt and he added that this investment will place these towns and their catchment areas at the cutting edge in terms of internet access. He added that this broadband infrastructure is now a vital tool for industry and invaluable for educational institutes, health and research bodies.
“A modern, fast, low-cost, always-on communications and broadband network is essential for Cavan’s economic future and this investment is evidence that the county is well and truly part of the information-age economy. It sends a clear signal to any investor that these towns are at the cutting edge in terms of Internet access and willingness to embrace the information economy. Effectively, what is being provided is low cost, high speed, 24/7 access to the Internet.
For too long, use of the internet and accessing websites has been frustratingly slow and expensive, whether it has been for business, pleasure or education. This will now be a thing of the past”, stated Deputy Smith.
Deputy Smith also told The Anglo-Celt that the inauguration of broadband for Cavan and Kingscourt also follows on from a recent Government announcement that Cootehill and Bailieboro will also have broadband infrastructure provided and he added that the ESB Telecoms National Broadband Fibre Optic Network which was recently launched by Minister Ahern will also be of particular significance to Co. Cavan.
