Mr Brendan Smith, T.D., has welcomed the decision by the Minister for Health and Children, Mr Micheál Martin, T.D., to provide further funding towards 15 additional medical beds and 4 high dependency beds at Cavan General Hospital. He added that the new agreement reached by the Minister and the North Eastern Health Board also provides for the recruitment of three new Consultant Surgeons for the Cavan-Monaghan Hospital Group. He added that these additional 19 beds can be provided within the existing hospital structures.
Deputy Smith stated that 10 additional beds will be provided for Monaghan General Hospital and 5 Junior Doctors will also be recruited to work in the hospital’s emergency treatment room. He also welcomed the proposal to provide 24 hour medical cover at Monaghan General Hospital with elective surgery and day surgery to be retained at that hospital.
