Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has today (16 June), presented Green Flags to three National Schools in County Cavan.
Speaking at three separate ceremonies for St. Killian’s NS, Mullagh; St. Mary’s NS, Virginia and Kill NS, Cootehill, Minister Smith congratulated the children and their teachers on their achievements: “ to reach the standards necessary to be awarded the Green Flag is a significant undertaking. You can be justifiably proud to be among 2,900 participating schools throughout the country who are demonstrating a keen awareness of our precious environment. You and people like you in schools all over the country, are helping to change Ireland for the better”, he said.
The Minister also acknowledged the key role of a number of agencies and sponsors in making the Green Schools Programme such a national success.
Emphasising that the attainment of the Green Flag was a group effort for all involved in the schools, he complimented the Principals, teachers, parents, caretakers, cleaners, green schools co-ordinators, and in particular the children for their tireless efforts and interest in the local environment.
