Major funding secured for Cavan Playbus- Smith

€ 100,000 allocated from Dormant Accounts for exciting new initiative

Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has announced an allocation of €100,000 to Cavan VEC for the purchase of a specially adapted playbus.

“I am delighted that Cavan VEC have been successful in their efforts to seek funding for this exciting initiative. They put forward a very convincing and credible case which I was very happy to support as Minister for Children”, the Minister said.

The funding, which has been allocated under the Dormant Accounts fund, will allow Cavan VEC to purchase a specially adapted double decker bus which will act as a community resource on wheels.

“The new playbus will be a tremendous benefit to many families in the County, especially those in isolated rural and under-resourced urban areas. It will offer flexible play and educational facilities, as well as childcare options to communities which have in the past suffered from social and geographical isolation”, he added.

“This really is a great development for Cavan and I look forward to the new playbus talking to the roads of the County and bringing with it exciting play and educational options for local families”, Minister Smith concluded.
