Smith welcomes Cavan tourism grants
Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has welcomed the announcement of grant aid for four tourism projects in Cavan. The funding has been allocated under Fáilte Ireland’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund and will benefit the following projects.
Ø Looped walk and car parks at Crover - Grant aid of 75% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €58,637, towards the provision of a 600m looped walking trail along with two new carparks. The new looped walk at Crover outside Mountnugent will be along a section of the shore at Lough Sheelin, a world famous brown trout fishery. The project will include a stone walkway and associated works.
Ø Lough Oughter – Grant aid of 75% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €90,750, towards the upgrade of the existing access roads serving Lough Oughter at Eonish, Killeshandra and also at an area known as “Flynn’s Pass” as well as the development of a new parking area. The works at Eonish include roadside drainage, provision of passing bays and parking areas, surfacing of the existing road and provision of directional signage.
Ø The Strand, Killeshandra - Grant aid of 75% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €112,500, for the upgrading of the existing car park and the reconstruction of the existing slipway and jetty to provide safer access to the Town Lake and the River Erne. It will also include the provision of approximately 650 metres of pathways along the lake, new parking area, and wheelchair access to an accessible fishing stand, picnic area, benches, bins and information boards.
Ø Barnagrow Lake, Cootehill - Grant aid of 75% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €113,558, towards the enhancement of the angling product by constructing an access road and car park adjacent to Barnagrow Lough. The project will include drainage, strengthening and surfacing of the access road together with the provision of new fencing and signage.
“These grants are a very welcome boost to the tourism sector in Cavan. Each of the projects to benefit, will now be able to significantly develop and upgrade their facilities. Cavan is a beautiful county and has great potential to further develop it’s tourism sector. These grants will greatly improve visitor attractions and the overall tourism product in the county”, Minister Smith said.
