County Cavan gets £576,000 in Sports Grants
Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Senator Diarmuid Wilson have announced grants totalling €576,000 for a number of sports clubs throughout County Cavan.
Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Senator Diarmuid Wilson have announced grants totalling €576,000 for a number of sports clubs throughout County Cavan.
They were informed of the grants by their Oireachtas colleague, Mr. Martin Cullen, T.D., Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism under the Sports Capital Programme 2008.
The following clubs have been approved for funding:
- Munterconnaught GFC €150,000
- Kingscourt Harps AFC €100,000
- Shercock Athletic Club €100,000
- Mullahoran GFC €90,000
- Shannon Gaels GAA €80,000
- Mullagh Community Park Development €40,000
- Belturbet Row Boat Club €8,000
- Ballyjamesduff Soccer Club €8,000
The Fianna Fáil Oireachtas Members welcomed the additional round of funding as a further boost for sport and recreation in County Cavan, which has received over €9 million in support for the development of sporting facilities over the last few years under the Sports Capital Programme.
“I am delighted that once again significant capital resources have been allocated to the sporting infrastructure of County Cavan. It is a tremendous boost to the clubs involved and I wish all associated with them well for the future”, Minister Smith said.
Acknowledging that the Sports Capital Programme has allowed many local clubs to make great strides forward in the provision of new facilities, the Minister also stated that there were many other projects throughout the County which are very deserving of assistance. “I have requested my colleague Minister Cullen to put in place another scheme of funding as soon as possible which will benefit even more clubs”, he added.
Minister Smith also said that he looked forward to further additional funding being allocated under the CLAR Programme.
