Smith welcomes funding to improve Cavan water quality


Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has welcomed funding in excess of €255,000 to Cavan County Council to assist in the improvement of water quality in the County.

Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has welcomed funding in excess of €255,000 to Cavan County Council to assist in the improvement of water quality in the County.

 

The funding which has been approved by his colleague, Mr. John Gormley. T.D., Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government, is part of a contingency fund for local authorities to finance improvement works, such as upgraded disinfection facilities, chlorine and turbidity monitors and dial-out alarms to warn of treatment plant malfunctions.

Welcoming the funding, Minister Smith said: “record amounts of investment in water services in County Cavan have been invested by this Government in recent years. This contingency funding is very welcome indeed and will allow Cavan County Council to ensure that the public water supply is of the highest quality”.
