Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has announced that additional grant aid has been approved for a number of angling tourism projects in County Cavan.

Mr. Brendan Smith, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has announced that additional grant aid has been approved for a number of angling tourism projects in County Cavan. The funding has been allocated under Fáilte Ireland’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund and will benefit two projects.

Councillors Danny Brady and Shane O’Reilly have welcomed Minister Smith’s announcement of this important and welcome investment of almost €151,000 in County Cavan’s tourism product.

Both Councillors had highlighted the need for constant investment in upgrading tourism facilities in the County.

The following two projects will benefit:

Corglass  Lake, Kilnaleck

Grant aid of 75% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €57,683, towards the upgrading of an existing laneway for a distance of 300m and creation of a new roadway 130m long to Corglass Lake, with a car park for anglers at the lakeshore.  Works will include drainage, road construction, grouting of material and fencing off of a roadway.  Kilnaleck is a centre of excellence for angling and Cavan County Council is focusing on the upgrading of all centres of excellence.

Lough Ramor Angling Upgrade & Amenity Area

Grant aid of 75% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of €93,187 towards the provision of a new access road into Lough Ramor at Crossafehin.  The project will include strengthening, drainage and surfacing of the proposed access road. The project also involves the upgrading of the existing car park adjacent to Lough Ramor at Coronagh (known as the 'Boat Road') and the creation of an amenity area.  The project will include drainage, strengthening and surfacing of the car park together with the provision of a new grassed

lakeside amenity area and signage. Lough Ramor is a centre of excellence

for angling and is renowned as a Pike fishery.

“These grants are a very welcome boost for angling tourism in Cavan and are particularly welcome as they follow a similar package of grants for four projects in the County announced in July. These grants will allow for a significant upgrading of facilities which will greatly improve the package on offer to those who come to Cavan for it’s angling and of course for the enjoyment of the local population”, Minister Smith said.
